Most of the hiking options here at Falls Lake revolve around the 60 mile Falls Lake Section of the North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail (NCMST).

 
The NCMST travels along the southern shore of Falls Lake from the Tailrace Fishing Area all the way to Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve. Broken up into sections by road crossings, the trail offers many options for day hikes, and several camping options if you plan to hike the entire 60 miles.

Much of the land around Falls Lake is Game Lands. That means you may see hunters while hiking during certain times of the year.
