Support for Others

The Corps of Engineers navigation mission focuses on providing safe, reliable, efficient, effective, and environmentally sustainable waterborne transportation systems (i.e. channels, harbors, and waterways) for movement of commerce, national security needs and recreation.  The Corps primary navigation responsibilities include planning and constructing new navigation channels and locks and dams, and dredging to maintain channel depths at U.S. harbors and on inland waterways.

For over 50 years, the Wilmington District has been supporting American waterways along the east coast of the United States by using innovation and navigation expertise to create environmentally successful solutions to difficult and challenging coastal issues. When requested, and in accordance with national policies, the Wilmington District provides support to other Federal, State, and local agencies with a full range of coastal navigation services that include, but are not limited to, environmental permitting, surveying, geospatial charting, geotechnical analysis, dredging, and marine construction. These solutions are funded on a reimbursable basis.
