General Information

The permittee maintains the facility or permit area according to the terms of the permit/license. Each permit term is five years in length. Near the expiration date Rangers with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Kerr Reservoir will conduct an inspection of the permit area/facility and begin the permit/license renewal process. After an inspection, permittee's will receive a packet of documents that they must read, sign, and return with designated fees to Kerr Reservoir Visitor Assistance Center (mail or by hand). Included in that packet of documents will be any information regarding permit deficiencies that were noted during the inspection. As a permit holder please review all information in the renewal packet carefully. If you have any questions regarding the renewal process please call the Visitor Assistance Center at 434.738.6143.

Shoreline Management Plan (pg. 21): Inspections of docks and buoys will be performed periodically. If deficiencies are found, the permittee will be notified and requested to make repairs within 30 days.  If the facility is found to be in such poor condition that total replacement is required, the permittee will be given 6 months to install a new floating facility and remove the old one from public property or Federal waters. Time extensions will be considered only if the permittee submits a written request.

Expand List item 39381Collapse List item 39381  What must a buoy permit holder maintain for their permit?

Buoy permit holders are required to have a post in the ground/shoreline with the permit number on the post in the authorized location for that specific permit. If you are unsure of a permit's authorized location please call the Visitor Assistance Center at 434.738.6143. Kerr Reservoir is no longer requiring that buoy permits have buoys in the Reservoir at their authorized location due to their difficulty to maintain and tendency to become hazards.
