Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on FAA permit request

The Wilmington District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is soliciting public comments on an application from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which seeks Army authorization to impact 709 linear foot of intermittent stream channel and 0.007 acres of wetlands associated with the proposed construction of a new Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) and associated structures and parking for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) in Mecklenburg County, N.C.

   Comments received will be considered by the USACE to determine whether to issue, modify, condition or deny a permit for this proposal. To make this decision, comments are used to assess impacts on endangered species, historic properties, water quality, general environmental effects and all other appropriate public interest factors.  Comments are used in the preparation of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and/or an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Comments are also used to determine the need for a public hearing and to determine the overall public interest of the proposed activity.
