U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District awards contract for Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Maintenance Dredging

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Wilmington District, announced the award of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) Maintenance Dredging contract to Southwind Construction Corp for $8,494,481 on 16 September 2025.

This contract features the dredging of several key areas along the AIWW and includes the beneficial use of beach placement at the corresponding beaches listed in the table below.

The USACE Wilmington District's commitment to maintenance dredging of the AIWW is driven by a mission to provide a safe and economically viable waterway while also using the dredged material in a way that provides significant environmental and coastal benefits to the region.

The dredging and subsequent beach placement will begin with Browns Inlet Crossing around December 2025. All dredging and placement will take place in the established environmental windows.
