North Bend Park at John H Kerr Dam and Reservoir (Buggs Island), 64 N. Bend Drive, will be closed November 1, 2022, through June 21, 2023, to repair and upgrade aging infrastructure throughout the park.  During this time, we will be making improvements to our wastewater management system.  We plan to replace sewer lines, make improvements to lift stations, and upgrade our wastewater treatment plant.

To accomplish this project, the use and/or reservation of campsites and picnic shelters in North Bend Park will not be accepted until June 21, 2023.  If work is completed prior to June 21, 2023, we will open/release these sites for reservation at that time.  Please follow us on Facebook for updates: @JohnHKerrReservoirBuggsIslandLake

In addition to the campsites, the entirety of North Bend Park will be closed throughout this time, including the day use areas, boat ramps, fishing pier, disc golf course, and the biking and walking trails.  Nearby areas, such as Tailrace Park, Palmer Point Park, Eastland Creek Park, and Rudds Creek Day Use will be open and provide similar day use opportunities.

We understand this closure affects our visitors by temporarily reducing recreation opportunities, but it’s important that we accomplish these much-needed improvements to allow this area to operate for decades to come.

If you have any questions about the closure or alternative recreation areas, please contact the Visitor Assistance Center, at 434-738-6143.
