WILMINGTON, N.C. – On 18 January 2022, a contract for Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) at Carolina Beach and Kure Beach was awarded to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company LLC for $20,315,900.00.

The benefits of this CSRM project include protection from erosion and other effects from coastal storms.  The project provides economic benefits by protecting private property, and ensuring beaches are primed for tourism and recreation. These projects have been in the works for a long time, thanks the full support of our partners, the local beach towns.

The one unique challenge with this project was funding. The projects were not funded as anticipated for their periodic nourishment. The Wilmington District and local partners did everything they could to highlight the importance of these projects to get the funding; because of these efforts a congressional reprograming directed available funds towards Carolina and Kure Beach CSRM projects.

Work is expected to begin February 2022 and finish by 31 March 2022.
