Philpott day use parks are going cashless

USACE Wilmington
Published April 7, 2021

WILMINGTON, N.C. New autopay machines were installed at two Philpott Lake parks managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). These machines will replace the Honor Vault at Ramp 1 and the gate attendant at Bowens Creek Park. All fees for these parks will be processed through the machines.

Since March 2020, because of COVID -19, USACE has been waiving day use fees. Starting today, the machine at Ramp 1 is online. Passes can be purchased from this machine from credit/debit card payments only. Cash and checks will no longer be accepted.

When Bowens Creek park opens on May 1, 2021, passes will only be distributed from the autopay machines. These are cashless, card only machines. Upon payment, they will print out a ticket that acts as your day use pass.

Visitors may purchase a day use pass for $5 or a Corps annual pass for $40 from the machines. Passes must be displayed in plain sight on the vehicle dashboard.

Annual passes printed from the machines are temporary and within a week must be redeemed for an actual pass at one of the campgrounds or the Visitor Center (when it reopens to the public).

These machines will make fee collections simpler and safer for the visitors and staff at Philpott Lake.
