Corps to host virtual public involvement meetings for the Neuse River Basin Flood Risk Management Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) is hosting three public involvement meetings to gather information and receive feedback on its progress for the Neuse River Basin Flood Risk Management Project and feasibility study. The meetings are organized by geographic region, and will be held virtually via a Facebook Live Stream on March 29 and 31, and April 1, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

WHO: Wilmington District

WHEN/WHERE: The meetings will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The meetings can be accessed virtually through a live-stream on the Wilmington District's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/USACE.Wilmington or at the specific links under each date. The specific day of these meetings will vary on the geographic area.  Face masks and social distancing are required at all optional in-person locations:

 

  • March 29 event link: https://fb.me/e/1dZx6Izxu - City of New Bern, Town of Trenton, Town of Pollocksville, Town of Oriental and Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties.  Participants will have the option to attend the meeting in-person, during the same time, at several locations:
    • Trenton - Jones County Civic Center, 832 Hwy 58 South, Trenton, NC, POC: Mr. Franky Howard, County Manager, (252) 448-7571.  Limited to 25 attendees.
    • New Bern - New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, 203 S. Front St, New Bern, NC, POC:  County Manager’s Office, (252) 636-6600.  Limited to 25 attendees.

 

  • March 31 event link: https://fb.me/e/hKTUGlW3E - City of Kinston, City of Goldsboro, Town of Seven Springs, City of Wilson, and Lenoir, Wayne, Johnston and Wilson Counties.  Participants will have the option to attend the meeting in-person, during the same time, at several locations:
    • Kinston - Community Center, 2602 W Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC, POC: City Manager's office, (252) 939-3111.  Limited to 25 attendees.
    • Goldsboro - Jeffrey's Building, 134 N. John Street, first floor conference room, POC:  Mr. Berry Gray, Planning Director, Wayne County, (919) 731-1630.  Limited to 10 attendees.
    • Wilson – Wilson County Agriculture Center, 1806 Goldsboro Street SW, Wilson, NC, POC:  Mr. Josh Pate, Director of Soil and Water Conservation District, (252) 237-5147, ext. 3.  Limited to 25 attendees.

 

  • April 1 event link: https://fb.me/e/hKTUGlW3E - City of Durham, City of Raleigh, Town of Smithfield and Wake and Durham counties.  There are no in-person meetings locations available.

 

WHAT: The Corps is partnering with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (non-Federal sponsor) on a feasibility study that focuses on flood and life safety risks within the Neuse River Basin.  The Corps is hosting three public involvement meetings to share information about the project, present its current progress and gather feedback. Each meeting focuses on a different geographic area within the basin and consist of a 30-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.

Comments and questions can be submitted during the meeting and will be responded to as soon as possible. If you are unable to join the live stream, the meeting will be recorded and stored on our Facebook page, where it can be viewed at any time.
