Statement Regarding Reopening Of Wilmington District Facilities

Published May 12, 2020

WILMINGTON, N.C. - During the COVID19 pandemic several of The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District recreational areas at W. Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir, Falls Lake, B. Everett Jordan Dam and Lake, John H. Kerr Reservoir and Philpot Lake have been closed.

Several boat ramps and day use areas have since opened, with limited facilities, as conditions permitted.

Prior to the complete opening of District areas, several conditions must be met. At this time we are working hard to ensure that we are meeting all requirements to include: national & local opening guidelines and requirements, State Stay-at-Home order status and current phases, national & local level COVID-19 case trends, and all CDC sanitation guidelines.

Wilmington District will open areas in a phased and conditions based manner once all initial operating conditions have been met and we are sure we can do so in a safe manner.

Based on the local situation at the time, Campgrounds have a targeted reopening to the public date on 01 June; but all reservations must be made online at www.recreation.gov.  All current and applicable social distancing requirements will apply in a given area.

Remaining day use areas such as beaches, playground areas and shelters will remain closed until further notice but will be included in the next phase of our re-opening plans.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.  Please be aware that all plans are subject to change.
