WILMINGTON, N.C. -- WILMINGTON, N.C. - The President released the budget proposal for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 and the Fiscal Year 2020 Work Plan, which includes funding for ongoing projects in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District.
FY 2021 Budget
The FY21 budget provides almost $60 million to Wilmington District Investigations, Construction, and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) projects. Most of the proposed budget is for O&M (approximately $53 million) projects. The District’s O&M projects include maintenance dredging of multiple deep and shallow draft navigation harbors and channels such as the Wilmington Harbor at $15.1 million, Morehead City Harbor at $7.1 million, and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) at $3.6 million. The District’s five reservoirs and dams are included in the budget with John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir in VA & NC receiving $10.9 million. The other four District lake projects received a combined $13.6 million to continue to provide flood risk management, recreation and other authorized purposes and services to the public. The FY21 budget proposals for all Wilmington District projects are shown on the enclosed table.
Following the release of the president’s budget, the proposed FY21 budget begins a process that includes action by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and results in an appropriations bill to be enacted into law before final funding amounts are known.
FY 2020 Work Plan
The FY20 Work Plan provides a total of almost $45 million to Wilmington District Construction and O&M projects. The District will receive $11 Million to continue disposal area improvements at Wilmington Harbor, in order to increase future disposal capacity for maintenance dredging of the anchorage basin. The Work Plan also provides O&M funds for the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Morehead City Harbor and Wilmington Harbor. The FY20 Work Plan for all Wilmington District projects are shown on the enclosed table.
“The FY21 budget proposal and the FY20 Work Plan allows the Wilmington District to execute essential Construction and O&M activities on our Civil Works projects,” said Wilmington District Commander Colonel Robert J. Clark. “We look forward to maximizing our funding in FY20 & FY21 to provide water resource solutions under our Navigation and Flood Risk Management programs for our stakeholders.”
