WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Visitor Assistance Center at W. Kerr Scott will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 5 due to the National Day of Mourning for the 41st President, George H.W. Bush. It will also be closed on Dec. 6 and potentially on Dec. 7 for repairs to a water system. No amenities will be available for visitors or staff, so the office will be closed to the public.
Additionally, the Ranger Road at W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 6 and potentially on Friday, Dec. 7 for road repairs. The roadway will receive pavement patches and speed bumps will be installed.
The portion of Ranger Road to receive repairs is a government-owned service road for project use. However, a growing numbers of speeders have been using the road as a short cut from Old Highway 268 to Reservoir Road which has led to safety concerns for staff members. Ranger Road is clearly marked as “No Thru Street” on both sides.
