WILMINGTON, N.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)Wilmington District invites the public to participate in hunting opportunities at W. Kerr Scott Reservoir. W. Kerr Scott Reservoir now boasts a significant Canadian Geese population. The North CarolinaWildlife Resource Commission and U.S. Fish andWildlife Service have announced the dates for the early resident Canadian Geese season as September 1 thru 30, 2018.

Since this early season coincides with camping and day-use seasons for our parks, mandatory special permits will be issued free of charge to individuals interested in hunting areas zoned as NO HUNTING. An application can be printed from our website listed below or obtained at our Visitor Assistance Center. The areas that will need a special hunt permit include the Dam face/Dark Mountain Park, Berry Mountain Park swim beach, and the Waterfowl Impoundment off Marley’s Ford Road. All applications will need to be received no later than August 30, 2018. Applications will have more information regarding hours of hunt and special access instructions. Areas typically open to waterfowl hunting per the USACE W. Kerr Scott Reservoir Project map (available at the Visitor Assistance Center) will be open to hunting without special permit.
