Boating at John H. Kerr Reservoir

The Corps promotes safe boating and encourages you to obey the "rules of the road" as well as be courteous to other reservoir users. All federal, state and local laws are enforced at John H. Kerr Reservoir. County, state, and federal officers and rangers patrol the Reservoir on a routine basis. While standard navigation signs mark Kerr Reservoir's hazardous areas, boaters should be watchful for submerged stumps, logs, rock and shallow water. Report any damaged or missing buoys immediately to the US Army Corps of Engineers at (434) 738-6143.

Once you complete the course, the course completion certificate or card that is provided by the course provider is what is required to operate a vessel.

Persons 14 years of age or older may also operate without a boating education certificate if physically accompanied on the PWC by an adult at least 18 years of age and meets the requirements of G.S. 16.2.
