RALEIGH, N.C. It’s time to catch the zone and win some cool prizes for doing it!  Water enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to be safe this summer and win prizes in the “Life Jacket Zone” photo contest.  The contest continues until Sunday, Sept.7.  Participants are encouraged to snap a picture of themselves, family, or friends properly wearing a life jacket and then submit them to the Life Jacket Zone Facebook site.  The pictures with the most likes at the end of the summer will win some great prizes.  For more information about the contest, visit the Life Jacket Zone Facebook page:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will partner with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, N.C. State Parks, the Neuse Riverkeeper Foundation, Safe Kids Wake County, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in the Saved by the Zone: The Life Jacket Zone campaign this summer.  In addition to the photo contest, visitors will see “Life Jacket Zone” stencils painted at boat ramps across the state and southern Virginia, and boating safety educational events.

The most important thing you can do to keep yourself or someone you love alive while recreating in or around the water is to wear a life jacket and encourage others to do so. Ask yourself, are you or someone you love likely to be the next person to drown and take actions to make sure you are not next! Get in the life jacket zone!  We can’t wait to see you on the water and the web!
