1. Water Control Plan Minor Deviation - mid-February to mid-March 2016

Per Section 7-07.c of the Water Control Plan for W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is going to utilize a minor deviation for project maintenance.  Specifically, a 4-foot drawdown that will last approximately 2 weeks in duration. USACE plans on starting the reservoir drawdown in the next 2 weeks, to accommodate removal of submerged debris that is a significant public safety hazard at Berry Mountain Recreation Area, one of the day use swim beach areas. USACE is targeting mid-February to mid-March to conduct this drawdown and debris removal. An additional press release will be placed in the Journal Patriot when the drawdown actually begins.  Work will be scheduled to avoid any forecasted major rainfall events.  Drawdown is expected to take 3-4 days, followed by 2-3 days for the exposed shoreline to dry to allow for contractor access.  Debris removal would then be expected to take less than a week to complete.  Refilling of the lake would be dependent on inflows/rainfall following completion of the work. Based on statistical analysis of inflows, refilling in 1 to 3 weeks is extremely likely in all but the driest of winters.  Please contact Tony Young (Water Management Chief, 910-251-4455) or Kevin Heape (W Kerr Scott OPM, 336-921-3390) if you have questions or need additional information.
