W. Kerr Scott Seeking Volunteers for Lake Cleanup

Published Feb. 16, 2016

WILKESBORO, N.C.U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at W. Kerr Scott dam and Reservoir are looking for volunteers to assist with a lake cleanup. Rain and melting snow over the past few months have washed trash down the upper Yadkin River into the coves of W. Kerr Scott Reservoir.

Between mid-February and mid-March, the Corps will lower the lake level by four feet to perform maintenance at Berry Mountain Recreation Area. The lowered lake level will create a perfect opportunity to tidy up the coves.

“Volunteers play a valuable role in helping the US Army Corps of Engineers care for the environment and keeping public lands and waterways clean and safe,” said W. Kerr Scott Ranger Johnny Jones.

Individuals or groups interested in volunteering should contact Ranger Jones at (336) 921-3390, extension 120.
