WEBVTT 00:00.379 --> 00:02.323 Well , hey y'all , Colonel uh Brad 00:02.323 --> 00:04.657 Morgan here for the Wellington District . 00:04.657 --> 00:06.990 US , Army Corps engineer just wanted to , 00:06.990 --> 00:09.157 to give you an update or about 60 days 00:09.157 --> 00:11.268 post event uh with hurricane Helene . 00:11.268 --> 00:13.379 So right now , coming to you from the 00:13.379 --> 00:15.490 Bee Tree reservoir here just north uh 00:15.490 --> 00:17.712 northeast of the city of Asheville . So 00:17.712 --> 00:17.549 what we're doing here , we've got a 00:17.559 --> 00:20.170 water filtration pretreat project uh 00:20.180 --> 00:22.013 that we're gonna install . We're 00:22.013 --> 00:24.291 currently in the process of installing , 00:24.291 --> 00:26.124 as you can see behind me , we're 00:26.124 --> 00:28.347 putting in some dissolved air flotation 00:28.347 --> 00:30.458 units . What that's going to allow us 00:30.458 --> 00:32.569 to do is to pre filter the water here 00:32.569 --> 00:32.529 at this treatment plant so that we can 00:32.540 --> 00:34.569 get it back down to the levels that 00:34.580 --> 00:36.524 this plant . Uh The William De Bru 00:36.524 --> 00:38.636 treatment plant is used to treating . 00:38.636 --> 00:40.747 So our contractor has been great . Uh 00:40.747 --> 00:42.691 We're working here with the Bering 00:42.691 --> 00:44.858 Strait and Weston is a joint venture , 00:44.858 --> 00:46.969 really good support from them and the 00:46.969 --> 00:48.636 team , the other updates just 00:48.636 --> 00:50.469 concerning our , our other major 00:50.469 --> 00:52.580 mission for water . Obviously , we're 00:52.580 --> 00:54.802 still running our , our water treatment 00:54.802 --> 00:54.693 plant uh there at the University of 00:54.702 --> 00:56.713 North Carolina Asheville . So that 00:56.722 --> 00:58.778 continues to operate providing fresh 00:58.778 --> 01:00.833 clean water to the students there on 01:00.833 --> 01:03.000 campus as they look to wrap up their , 01:03.000 --> 01:05.111 their end of their fall semester here 01:05.111 --> 01:07.278 in the next few weeks . And we're also 01:07.278 --> 01:09.444 working uh just over the mountain here 01:09.444 --> 01:11.555 from me , over at Burnett Reservoir . 01:11.555 --> 01:13.500 So we're also putting in a similar 01:13.500 --> 01:15.666 water filtration pretreat plant that's 01:15.666 --> 01:17.944 basically going to do the same process . 01:17.944 --> 01:20.111 We're going to prefiltered the water , 01:20.111 --> 01:21.889 get it back to levels that that 01:21.889 --> 01:24.055 treatment plant there up in North Fork 01:24.055 --> 01:26.222 is used to handling . So that's really 01:26.222 --> 01:25.926 where we are in terms of water . We 01:25.935 --> 01:29.010 also got another project um in support 01:29.019 --> 01:31.160 of Spruce Pine . So we're gonna 01:31.339 --> 01:33.395 purchase a pump and we're gonna also 01:33.395 --> 01:35.500 work on a temporary bypass to allow 01:35.510 --> 01:37.510 them to bring their water treatment 01:37.510 --> 01:39.677 capability there to the town of Spruce 01:39.677 --> 01:41.843 Pine back up to , to near 100% level . 01:41.843 --> 01:43.954 So we're excited about that project . 01:43.954 --> 01:45.954 We've got to get that awarded , but 01:45.954 --> 01:48.121 that should happen within the next few 01:48.121 --> 01:50.121 days . Uh So our major mission that 01:50.121 --> 01:52.288 we've been working is debris . So , so 01:52.288 --> 01:54.232 far , we've removed probably about 01:54.232 --> 01:57.819 450,000 cubic yards of debris . Uh All 01:57.830 --> 02:00.480 storm related and event driven . Most 02:00.489 --> 02:02.656 of that's been along the right of ways 02:02.656 --> 02:04.711 and , and a lot of the counties that 02:04.711 --> 02:04.629 we've been working in . We've also been 02:04.639 --> 02:06.650 working hard down in uh lake lure 02:06.660 --> 02:08.882 itself , removing the floating waterway 02:08.882 --> 02:10.827 debris there . We're about halfway 02:10.827 --> 02:12.938 finished with that quantity of debris 02:12.938 --> 02:15.050 that we pulled from the lake . And if 02:15.059 --> 02:17.479 any of you all saw the pictures of kind 02:17.490 --> 02:19.434 of the floating debris field there 02:19.434 --> 02:21.600 within lake lure itself that debris 02:21.610 --> 02:23.721 field has now been cleared . So we're 02:23.721 --> 02:26.130 excited to have great progress on our 02:26.139 --> 02:28.306 debris removal operations . Excited to 02:28.306 --> 02:30.139 have great progress on our water 02:30.139 --> 02:32.679 filtration uh projects uh and 02:32.690 --> 02:34.690 everything that we're doing here in 02:34.690 --> 02:36.857 support of F MA . Excited to be a part 02:36.857 --> 02:38.857 of this team , got individuals here 02:38.857 --> 02:41.023 from , from all over the nation and in 02:41.023 --> 02:43.023 every office that the Army Corps of 02:43.023 --> 02:45.023 Engineers has . We've got teammates 02:45.023 --> 02:47.246 here from the , the Far East district , 02:47.246 --> 02:49.523 teammates here from the Japan District , 02:49.523 --> 02:51.634 Honolulu , Alaska and of course , all 02:51.634 --> 02:53.690 those within the Continental US . Uh 02:53.690 --> 02:53.179 You name the district , they've 02:53.190 --> 02:55.246 probably been here . Everyone that's 02:55.246 --> 02:57.579 here is a volunteer . Uh They signed up , 02:57.579 --> 02:59.801 raised their right hand and say , hey , 02:59.801 --> 03:02.134 they're willing to come out and support , 03:02.134 --> 03:01.649 you know , the people here of North 03:01.660 --> 03:03.604 Carolina as they recover from this 03:03.604 --> 03:06.179 disaster .
