WILMINGTON, N.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced on 19 January 2022, the Civil Works studies, projects, and programs that would be initiated in Fiscal Year 2022 with the $22.81 billion in supplemental funding provided in two recently enacted laws — the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA); and the 2022 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (DRSAA).  The Wilmington District area benefits greatly from this additional funding for a multitude of navigation projects and multi-purpose flood risk management projects.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is commonly referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, and originally in the House as the INVEST in America Act, is a United States federal statute enacted by the 117th United States Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden on November 15, 2021.

The Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act includes additional funding for disaster assistance where losses were suffered due to droughts, hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and other qualifying natural disasters.  Project restoration from damages due to Hurricane Florence for the Wrightsville Beach Coastal Storm Risk Management project was included.
